Food Lover

Heya pretties!

What have you been up to this weekend? I dedicated myself for cooking (or rather, baking, see here) and watching movies. (Rango and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)

Haven't really been dressing up too much, but tried out this - I'd say Japanese inspired - outfit, which was a little bit out of my usual comfort zone but still, I liked it. (And since it's under 10 degrees in here - Celsius, that is - this kinda raised more than few looks from other people...) I wore this yesterday for a shopping trip, when we went to look for some new shirts for my fiancé.

Oh, and sorry for the poor quality, I'm fixing the issue after Christmas, promise!! ;)

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

T-shirt: GinaTricot (it says "Let's Sushi", in case it's unclear to you), Shorts: VILA, Leggings: Pieces (Only), Legwarmers: Seppälä (sooo old), Shoes: Puma, Handbag: I believe it's H&M, but wouldn't swear on it..., Bangles: Nelly.com, Cupcake necklace: Accessorize, Pink pearls: my cousin's old ones.

I kinda tried to be creative, not a perfect ten maybe, but I really liked this outfit. (As did my fiancé, which is why I wore this :'D) The pink box featuring in there is the box of my new shoes. I found this gorgeous pair of wedges (light cognac colour) and I had to buy them despite of my account being very light right now. Well, Monday's a paycheck day.

Phew.

Anyways, I've been keeping up the Halloween spirit here a little bit, baking cookies (just because I found the perfect recipe), planning foods for next weekend (we're having a sort of After Halloween/Fathers' Day thingy with my parents). Also, I painted my nails to fit the theme (as I didn't have any other way to dress up... Note to self: Next year, own party.)

Manicure of the Day

This manicure was inspired by the blog A Little Obsessed, written by the lovely Sabrina, who is one of my favourite beauty bloggers at the moment. She writes great reviews on beauty products and her advice have helped me a lot.

Anyways, inspired by her, these are my "Halloween nails"

Photobucket

First, apply two layers of orange nail polish (I used some cheap H&M polish, would normally choose a more expensive one, but... I kind of figured this out very last minute).

Photobucket

Then, apply one layer of black, crackling nail polish. (I used the IsaDora one, as I totally love all the polishes from them)

Photobucket

Now, as you can see, the outcome isn't too cute. But it's for Halloween, so... They're kinda cool for that. I mean, as they are all I have for a costume. I'm still getting rid of these as soon as I hit the "Publish post" button. ;)

But hey, how has your weekend been? Any cool places you've been to? Amazing people you've met?

As I said, my weekend was nice and relaxing, and today I went for a delicious dinner with my fiancé and his parents. We had a great time in our favourite restaurant, and now that I'm writing I wish I had taken pictures to share with you... I'll remember that the next time, lovelies!

But now, hitting few rounds of NHL12 with my man, so...

Blog ya later!

Creating Your Own Personal Style (part 5)

Heya lovelies,

A bit longer post today... I have finally the time to continue the "personal style" series. (Which I personally love to write, hope you enjoy too.) As we last time talked about shoes, I think it's correct to now create conversation about accessories, right?

So, here we go:

Completing your look through accessories

I don't know how you guys feel, but to me, an outfit looks halfway done if the person doesn't have any accessories at all. I mean, not like you should try to look like a Christmas tree (like our fellow blogger Leia would say), because that just isn't cool. Unless you're going to be a Christmas tree for a Halloween, then we make an exception.

Okay, back to the point...

In my opinion, you can never have a perfect style without some great accessories to match your style. And like I stated before, it's very easy to overdo, but I always try to hold on to one guideline:

Always put only one of each accessory. (eg. one belt, one bangle, one necklace, one pair of earrings...)

That's a good way of starting, if you're unsure with your accessorizing. Then, when you get more view about what goes together with what, you can easily lift the limit up. (I mean, how many times you see me with only one bangle? ...exactly.)

Another great tip is: When you're wearing a flashy outfit, keep the accessories quite simple. That way, you give the outfit (by this I mostly mean a dress, but it can really be anything) the proper chance to shine. And it goes another way around, when wearing something simple, you can add some flashy items to rock it even more.

You see, a little balancing goes a long way. :)

Also, I think that when you go for the flashy accessories, it's usually best to choose one statement piece (for example a necklace) and then fit the other pieces together with it. That way, they don't end up clashing each other.

Easy, isn't it?

My personal favourites for everyday accessories are a great handbag (usually, a big one), gold bangles (yes, always many), long necklaces (usually two layered as one) and of course my engagement ring. ;) (and yes, maybe going a bit copycat towards Serena van der Woodsen style sometimes, not too much though.)

My view on some basic accessories:

So, I'm going to go through some types of accessories a bit more thoroughly, I try to include all the ones that matter, but surely I won't cover everything. Let me know if there's something missing that you would want me to write about! ;)

Handbags (or bags in general)

Photobucket

Every girl (and well, why not a guy too?) needs a great bag. Here are some of my favourites at the moment, not very practical ones because they seriously lack space, but love them anyways. The blue one was a real bargain, as it was originally over 20 euros, and I got it for 5. Great deal. ;)

Bags go to the similar priority range as shoes, it's better to put a bit more money to a perfect bag than to buy very cheap one that's merely okay. (not that you can't buy good bags for cheap, but you know, Chanel ain't free...) I frimly believe that you can totally change the mood of the outfit with one bag. Imagine a basic LBD, then pair it with the brown bag above. It makes it kinda casual, right? Then, do the same with the blue one. Gets more dressy, doesn't it?

Of course the shoes and other accessories make all the difference, too. (I think this post will lead to one "waht's in my bag" post in the near future...) And like with all pieces, I love versatility. I always try to choose bags that go with as many outfits as possible, and also ones that can be used with and without the shoulder strap. Personally, I'm not a big fan of "throw it over the shoulder" bags, because I feel they get kinda lost into the outfits. Feel free to debate on this, I love to hear your views. :) (oh, and count out those sporty bags, they're supposed to be carried like that!)

I could go on about this for days, like the other ones too, but I'm seriously trying to keep this somewhat short.

Belts

Photobucket

Besides keeping your pants up, belts are a great way of bringing some glam to your outfit. They can be used to create more complimenting waistline, to keep your cardigan from floating around, or for example to give some edge to the outfit. I love belts with all kinds of studs and bling in them, and have been purchasing only dark ones for ages. Nowadays I'm trying to look for more colourful options.

I'm personally looking for ideas how to wear different kinds of belts more, and you all fellow bloggers have been such an inspiration for that. I'm still learning about this, so all creative ideas and inspirations are more than welcome. ;)

Scarves

Photobucket

Honestly, I could not live without my scarves. They can be used as belts, bracelets, headbands, ponytail accessories, tops, skirts (mainly on the beach, of course)... There are so many options, depending on your scarf. Silky and shiny scarves are great for bringing glam to an outfit, and with more casual ones you can easily spice up your everyday outfit, especially now in the Autumn, when scarves also help you stay warm.

Hats

This Autumn I've been longing for a great hat. I still haven't find a good one, so I've gone on with my wool caps. Not too glamorous, but what the heck. I love hats on people, because in my opinion, they add that "chic" element to an outfit. I would loe to learn to wear them better, but that means I first have to find my perfect hat. This season, there are lots of cute hats out there, so maybe now's the time... :D

Yeah, picture missing because no hats I own are anything to photograph... Sorry!

Gloves (and mittens!)

Photobucket

(note: can you see the lonely hat?)

I think gloves (especially leathery ones) are a cool way of accessorizing your outdoor look on colder days. I try to choose ones with cute and interesting details, like studs, buttons, bows... Gloves can also be very ladylike, when compared with for example a trench, dress and boots.

Legwarmers

Again, no photo, but I think a nice pair of legwarmers can be a great way of extending the usage time of your shoes (like ballet flats) deeper into the cold Autumn. When compared in the right way, they can sometimes even bring a sporty element to your look (you know, ballet dancers wear legwarmers, so...)

Leggings and tights

Oh my, don't get me started... What can't you do with these two? :D The colour, material, thickness, style or length of either one can really make all the difference to an outfit. Think for example the current trend of pairing tall socks to boots. The boots look really different with and without the socks, don't they? So no matter the season, leggings and tights are a must to any woman's closet.

Oh, yeah, then the one thing: No matter what anyone says, to me, leggings are not pants. At least not the ones you can see through. It's so disturbing to see young (and not so young) women run around with their panties showing through leggings... Not very ladylike, huh? Trust me, most of the men are not too keen to see that either. So whenever using leggings, make sure your behind isn't showing through them ;)

Jewelry

I thought this could be divided into few more sections, so I'll talk a little about everything, kinda. Also, you'll see how I store my bling. :D

Rings

Photobucket

As you can see, I don't have a too massive collection of rings. That's because I'm only learning to use them - started with my engagement ring. The only mentionable ones are the white flower and the butterfly, and those I wear the most. I think it's so cool when people have different rings on their fingers, although this is again very easy to overdo - like all the ones below, too. I just don't know where to find rings that would fit my style.

So I'm asking you, lovelies: Where do you find awesome rings? I'm sure many people reading this would love to get ideas, so please share them. :)

Earrings

Photobucket

I love, love, love my earrings. My favourites aren't really showing there, since they are so small. But they are silver hearts (two on each) with little fake diamonds on them. They're again from my lovely man. (no surprise there!) I'm also loving the current trend of having feathers on earrings.

Earrings are great because you can wear them practically anywhere, any time and with everything. At least the simple ones. I personally have a little envy for the people who can fabulously carry big earrings, as I feel like I'm not that type. But with a shoulder-baring outfit and/or when my hair's all up and done, I like to try bigger ones too.

Necklaces

Photobucket

These are something that has to be girly and cute, while also being kinda long and maybe an inch hippie, too. To me, that is. I firmly believe that two necklaces you can't ever go wrong are a classic pearl necklace and a simple silver or gold chain with a small charm hanging from it. Those two go a really long way.

A cool thing to do is to buy pieces that can be layered as bigger necklaces. If you buy even a few ones that go well together, you'll notice you actually have many combinations to choose from. To make the look your own, try to find necklaces with interesting details. Like, if you think London is a cool city, find a necklace that has those lovely buses or phone booths in it. If you're into japanese style, you could find cute little animals and cupcakes. There are so many to choose from, you just have to find the right places.

Bangles

Photobucket

These I love too. I usually layer these too a bit (You see the pile of thin golden ones there? No point using them individually.) I'm a total sucker for gold bangles, so you can only guess how hard it is to resist buying those cuffs everyone seems to have now... :D Bangles are totally something I've picked up from Gossip Girl, didn't even dream about them before that!

Of course I love bracelets altogether, but the bangles are mostly me. Though, my new Thomas Sabo bracelet tries hard to steal the number one slot. ;)

Headbands (and hair thingys)

Photobucket

I know most of you are thinking now: Blair Waldorf. :D Okay, that might be just me. Apart from being the statement accessory of the first two Gossip Girl seasons, headbands are a clever way of making your hairdo (and look) seem like it's more thoroughly planned and that it takes longer to do than it actually does. You know, sometimes it's nice. (which actually reminds me of couple of hair tutorials I should post here...)

My three favourite things in hair accessories are bows, flowers and lace. All so girly, I know. Of course great colours are a key too, as these are pieces that stand out no matter what you are wearing. I've seen many fellow bloggers using very different hair accessories, and I must admit, I've gotten really inspired!

So, that's what I have to say about accessorizing. I know that now there might be lots of different opinions and thoughts, or maybe even questions. Feel free to leave a comment so I can hear (well, see, rather) what you guys have to say!

And of course: What are your favourite accessories, and why? Do you have any great accessory tips you'd like to share here (eg. where to buy, what to buy, how to wear, or even how to make your DIY accessories)?

I would really appreciate if you took the time to create a conversation here :)

See you around this weekend!

Dressy Denim

Hey babes,

How was your weekend?

Mine was very nice, I was having a wonderful time with my fiancé and a couple of friends, who we hadn't seen for a while. I also managed to go through a shopping trip without buying anything. That, my friends, I call a success. ;)

Remember, you can still enter my international necklace giveaway for two days! The winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday 25th, so now, take part by commenting on the giveaway post. You can also enter multiple times with ways given out in the last post. Remember, the entries are valid only, when they are posted in the original giveaway post. ;) Good luck!

But now, I'd like to share my today's outfit with you.

Outfit of the Day

Dress: GinaTricot, Tights: Pieces (Only), Shoes: SpiritStore, Jacket: H&M, Necklace: Accessorize, Bracelets: Nelly.com, Bag: Tunnelin Kenkä.

After hanging out the whole weekend in jeans (which I wore for the previous post, and btw, managed to rip a bit more...), I felt like I could wear something a bit different. So I went for this light denim dress, and combined it with black and grey. I liked this, but what do you guys think?

When we were out taking these pictures, this little furry guy came out to check out the shoot:

Photobucket

Photobucket

 Can you spot him? ;)

That squirrel was totally adorable, trying to hide in a tree when we saw him, and then running away (behind a parked car). When we walked away from the parking lot, the little guy froze completely and stayed there staring (without blinking, I bet) at us as long as we could see him.

I'm not sure whether he's still staying at the spot, but I sure hope not. :)

Then, one more thing. Probably completely irrelevant, but this made me so, so happy I can't not tell...
My lovely, lovely fiancé bought me this Thomas Sabo bracelet I had longed for a while now, seeing it on many fashion magazines (if you count Glamour and InStyle to those) and checking them many times out live. Today, I found out they were in sale on one shop, so I dragged my fiancé to look at them.

And this is what I got:

Photobucket

The sales lady insisted in putting the bracelet on on cute little box. Couldn't say no to that, it's the perfect place to store the thing while not using it. (plus, it is an adorable box!) I kinda think she thought it was to someone else, after all, he bought the smallest bracelet (which fits perfectly, so guess how small that makes me :D).

Photobucket

And this is how it looks: I love this little hummingbird so much.Of course, it was difficult to choose from all the nice charms, but I wanted some of the cheaper ones for starters.

I mean, he was so nice, buying it to me at all, that I just couldn't ask for more.

Especially after getting a bouquet of pink roses (which were sold for the breast cancer awareness campaign) on Friday. I wish I can make them last for a week this time...

So, that's all I have today, remember to enter the giveaway and have a great start of the week!

Blog ya later!

Return of My Old Favourite (+ more ways to enter the giveaway)

Hey babes,

I was supposed to post this a day ago, but rearranging the apartment kinda took all my time :D

Today, we were picking up some friends from the railway station, and I tried to dress nicely even though I didn't (after all) have any time to do my hair. I blame that completely on sewing, it took more time than I thought... :D

We were a bit early in the station, so I thought I'd get some photos so that I could make a decent post for you guys. ;) This is very casual, not even having proper accessories. (yep, I was indeed cleaning again today...)

Outfit of the Day

Photobucket

Photobucket

"always stay positive" :D

Photobucket

Does somebody have any clue what I was explaining here?

...neither do I.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Tried to get a good pic from the make-up, but that didn't quite work out for me... :D

Jacket: H&M, Top: H&M, Jeans: Auposen (Fiorella), Boots: Kenkä Cosmos, Bag: Tunnelin kenkä (= Tunnel's Shoe), Scarf: made by me.

Those jeans... <3 I totally love, love, love them. They're age-old, have been repaired more times than I dare to admit, but they still rock my world. My lucky jeans, my "full confidence" jeans. I always feel pretty wearing these, no matter how many times they've been fixed. As long as they somehow stay in one piece, I'm wearing them. :)

Apart from the jeans, I was sewing these:

Photobucket

I finally found great tablecloth fabrics, they're as close to perfection as I can get at the moment. I made four tablecloths, and I try to get some photos of how they look as soon as I can. :)

Then, something that would've gone to yesterday's post (if I'd written one):

Manicure of the Day

I was trying this cool three-coloured manicure on my nails. You'll see from the pics it was the first time ever I made it, but the funny thing is, that the first nail I painted came out perfectly. The others... not so much. But I hope this is inspiring even though my skills aren't that impressive yet.

Photobucket

Step 1: Take straight manicure tapes (one for each nail), and apply them on nails. You can do it straight, or the way I did it, which to me looks cooler. Apply grey polish (I used a matte shade from Depend) to the cuticle side.

Photobucket

Step 2: Take the tapes off. Apply a yellow nail polish (again using Depend, it's a neon yellow) to the rest of the nail.

Photobucket

Step 3: Take a black nail polish with a thin brush, and apply a thin black line to the meeting edge of the other two colours.

The result should look like this (mine was so much messier, but I trust you to know how to do this better :D) It might be recommendable to apply two coats of the two lighter colours, so that they come off more vibrante. Try it out, it's cool.

Lastly, a little thing concerning the necklace giveaway that's on still few days.

There's a couple of ways you can do to get an extra entry to the giveaway:

1. Follow me on Twitter (silvertigo).
2. Tweet about this giveaway.
3. Follow (er... like) this blog on Facebook.  (Link is easily found at the bottom of the blog)
4, Mention this giveaway on your blog post.

All the entries should be submitted to the original giveaway post (link above), so if you do any of these, let me know by commenting to the giveaway post (and please leave a link/your FB/Twitter name so I can check the entries ;). You can do them all, they all are their own entries, each counts as one.

There's still plenty of time until Tuesday, when the lucky winner will be chosen at random. The giveaway is open internationally, since the gift can easily be sent anywhere without too heavy postal costs. :)

So enter, tell your friends about it, and have them enter too!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Blog ya later,

Outfit of The Day and... My First Giveaway!

Hey lovelies,

Today I've been not doing that much, shopping just a bit (nothing for myself, though), then I took my shoes to be fixed, cooked a salad (again), and washed dishes. I should still write some cards for postcrossing and tomorrow clean up the house a bit more (does it make me sound neurotic? :D).

Anyways, almost getting the home look like I want, just missing some little things like candlesticks and tablecloths. And of course a bouquet of fresh roses, just a little hint for the man of the house. ;)

Haven't been wearing anything too special, but thought this is still worth sharing:

Top: VILA, Jeans: Only, Belt: Seppälä, Bracelets: Nelly.com, Europehouse, Necklace: GinaTricot.

I bought the top from a friend last weekend, since she had no use for it anymore, and surprisingly no one had bought it even though she had tried to sell it on a flea market. Well, not that I'd mind, I got a coolest top for small amount of money. Thank you, Heini! <3

I tried to kind of make it rock a bit with the accessories, and I think it went well. The boots seem to go with every outfit these days, I should try to wear something else for a change. :)

But as I've mentioned, today I have some great news. Since evertything is going so smoothly in my life, with school and everything, and you've all been more than supportive with my blog, I decided to celebrate a bit with you. Some of you may have noticed small changes with the layout - that's going to continue when I get more ideas - which is part of the celebration, but there's something more:

Giveaway

This is why I was shopping today, I was choosing a small gift to give to a one lucky reader. And here's what I chose:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Two necklaces from GinaTricot (which is one of my favourite shops), that go well on their own, but can also be combined as one. I'm sure they'd go well with many different outfits.

How to enter?

1. Leave a comment to this post. Tell me your thoughts about the post, or, as this really is for you guys, you can share something about your day.
2. Follow carefully my posts for this week, as I'll give out ways the get more entries.
3. Become a follower of this blog. That makes an extra entry. (and tell it with a comment so I'll remember to count that too)

The lucky winner will be contacted after the entry time has closed. You can submit entries until Tuesday, 25th October (so you have a week to enter). Winner will be announced here in this blog on Wednesday 26th October, and I'll also contact the winner personally. Everyone is allowed to enter, no matter where you live.
