Thriftng the Trends - Biker Shorts

Today's post features an item I didn't expect enjoy styling this much - and ended up not only doing one look, but three instead. These looks might take away from my metal girl street credit (if I even have any), but I had so much fun creating this post that I don't even care.

This post is another part to the series "Thrifting the Trends", where I take the trends predicted on runways for the season SS19, and create them either by using what I already have, by thrifting or by DIYing the items. So I'm trying to show how most if not all trends can be recreated without necessarily going to the fast-fashion shops and contributing to the problematic industry just because you're on a budget. The inspiration for the looks comes from the trend reports on Vogue and Pantone, one focusing on styles and other on colors.

And so without further ado, let's get into the looks:

band tee biker shorts

The first outfit is super simple, just an oversized band tee with the shorts, topped with some bracelets and Dr. Martens. Festival appropriate and easy to modify with accessories. I've seen looks like this with cute little purses, but as I'm mostly one bag only kind of girl and my only bag is backbag, I didn't feel like including it. But a tiny chic crossover bag or a little waist bag would do the trick and completely make this. The big tee could also be belted from the waist to give it some shape but again, didn't feel like it.

The tee here is from Amaranthe merch shop, the shorts from Gina Tricot (years ago), the shoes from Dr Martens (vegan leather), and the bracelets from MintMONGOOSE and H&M

The next look is kind of "business chic", although I'm sure most offices wouldn't be too thrilled about this look. However, for a girl power lunch with your favorite ladies (where you plan world dominance, naturally), I  feel this would be appropriate. I kind of felt like a Kardashian in this look, despite of course being less than poor in comparison and not actually having that Kim K body. But the vibe I got from the look was girl boss. And we can say anything we want about Kardashians, but the babes do have a girl empire, for better or for worse.

Okay back to the look, geez. What I meant was this look made me feel strong and independent and made me forget the fact I'm actually too short to manage and need a man to open my soda bottles. But mentally, I felt invincible int this. And that's a good kind of outfit.

The shorts here are again from Gina Tricot, the crop top from Boohoo, the blazer originally from H&M but I've bought it from a thrift store, the necklace from H&M and the loafers from Citymarket.

The third and last look is a bit more casual version of the blazer outfit, I switched the top to a polo neck, the jacket to a cute denim one and the shoes to sporty ones, and I feel it created a look I would wear to an outdoors event with my girls. Again, this look would be eve cuter with a nice purse, but I didn't go to that length with these looks. I could however accessorize one step further in the next post where I style more than one look, if that is something you'd like to see.

The shorts, as you can guess, are the same ones from Gina Tricot, the crop top is from Shop Sweet Mayhem, denim jacket from thrift store, the shoes from Adidas and the necklace from MintMONGOOSE

What do you think about these outfits? Let me know in the comments!

That's it for today and this style post, but I really had fun creating the looks. The only thing I'd change is that I really need to figure out the lighting situation to get more quality into the outfit shots. Otherwise this could be a really nice consept to do throughout the year whenever I find trends I have enough fun with to do a whole lookbook. Anyway, this is it for this post, and in the next one I'll share my first impressions of a very colorful China Glaze collection, so stay tuned for that. And in the meantime, you can follow my Instagram @jolagerroos, where I post my daily outfits and more. I'll see you in my next post!

Have a lovely day ♥
