My Cruelty-Free Skincare Routine

Heya babes, Let's talk about skincare, shall we? Skin is our biggest organ, so taking care of it - especially if it gets exposed constantly to sun, pollution or makeup - is vital. It's also the trick to fight the signs of ageing if you are about that life. To me it's more about just keeping the skin clean and healthy, I don't really mind if my age would show since apparently I look younger than I am as it is, and also my age doesn't really define me. But what does define me is having a cruelty-free routine for my skin. If that sounds like something interesting to you, keep on reading!

Operation No Foundation

So, after all the Halloween looks, and as the dry inside season of winter is coming up, I thought I should consider some actions for my skin to make it feel better. And even though I love an occasional full glam with perfect coverage, I'm also intrigued to get my skin in such shape that I can go no-foundation style most days.

Sunny As Hawaiian Tropic

Hello darlings!

How are you all today? ♥

I've had an amazing weekend with my man, and I'm pretty excited to start the work week tomorrow again. I enjoy my internship quite a lot, so getting up early feels all worth it and more. I hope and believe this feeling will stay until the end because the place I work in is simply amazing and the people are so supportive.

And talking about support, today I'm going to talk about how you can support your skin this summer.

DSC07114 (Large)

I got these Hawaiian Tropic products sent to me by Reddville to test out and possibly post about. I think it's amazing to get to try these out, since I've used their products last summer, and loved them then. Now, there are some new ones out, and I'm pretty excited to wear them now that days are getting sunny.

DSC07115 (Large)

Golden Tint Protective Lotion (SPF 15)

First of the products is Golden Tint Protective Lotion, which is this year's newbie. It gives you a cute golden tint while also protects your skin from the sun with SPF 15. I actually tested this out on my skin (see the pic below), and while I saw a slight difference in real life, I don't think my camera quite captured it. This product smells amazing and will surely be my go-to soon, when I wanna be out in the sun more.

DSC07117 (Large)

DSC07118 (Large)

Shimmer Effect Protective Lotion (SPF 25)

This one is also pretty adorable, as it truly gives this little sparkle for your skin. I think this would be perfect with little tan, as it would make your skin glow, while again protecting it from the sun. It has SPF 25, so with this you can be pretty calm in the sun.

DSC07122 (Large)

Protective Dry Spray Oil (SPF 10)

This one is already my friend as I used this last summer. I think this is great for the days it's not too sunny, and when you try to get some tan on you. It feels great on the skin, smells amazing and actually works pretty well on the sun. It smells s much like coconuts and is an absolute pleasure to use. I'm so happy I got this, as I would've went and bought it for the beach anyway. I love this product and can actually recommend based on my experience with it.

DSC07123 (Large)

Silk Hydration Face Lotion (SPF 30)

Last but not least, this face lotion that is designed to take care of the delicate skin on your face. I love how pretty this looks in the bottle, it reminds me of ice cream or frozen yogurt. This feels very nice on the skin, and once again I love the smell of it. I love the fact this one can be worn under makeup, so I can properly protect my face from the sun while still rocking a look I want without a worry. I will be trying this one out properly very soon, but so far it seems very promising.

As a super pale person, I love that these products all have the protection against both UVA and UVB and they're also tested to be good even for sensitive skin (and allergic people). They are also waterproof up to 80 mins, which is pretty great if you like hang out on a beach or by the pool. The products with SPF 15 or higher have also the recommendation from the Skin Care Foundation, which to me sounds very assuring.

Have you tried out Hawaiian Tropic before? What did you think about it?

Now, I need to go catch some sleep, but I will be back soon with another new post. In the meantime, you can follow me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook to keep up with the latest little things in my life.

Have a sunny start for your week! ♥

Guest Post: Lifestyle Leads - Vitamins and Supplements for Skin Care

The skin is the largest organ in human body and is composed of living cell thus it requires a lot of nutrients for its wellbeing. When people look at us the first thing they notice is how our skin looks and how it looks can boost or lower a person’s self-esteem when it comes to interacting with people. The lack of sufficient nutrients in the body leads to poor health of the skin and thus making it look less beautiful. It leads to the skin having a rough feel making it look less vibrant. This also results into infections since the skin will be unable to perform its functions as required. This means that healthy nutrients should be part of your skin routine if you wish to have perfect skin.

There are various nutrients which the skin needs as to look healthy and radiant. Supplements for skin care are some good sources of these nutrients while others are found in the foods we eat. These nutrients needed by the skin are mainly vitamins and various ions. Let’s look at the different ways in which vitamins and supplements enhance our skin look and feel.

Vitamins

Vitamins as a general are how to look beautiful without having to really try. They individually work in the body to give healthy skin. Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen which is the substance responsible for maintenance of the skin's elasticity. It therefore helps slow down the aging process. The skin needs vitamin A for it to be able to effectively regenerate and repair itself. Vitamin E is essential in that it facilitates the skin's protection of the skin from harmful sun's rays. Vitamins are found in vegetables and fruits. These also contain antioxidants which are important in getting rid of free radicals that we get into contact with. Eating a healthy and balanced diet is the most important skin care tip especially because it's also a natural process through which the body, and hence the skin, gets nutrients.

Beauty Supplements

It is important to acknowledge the fact that the food we take is not usually sufficient to provide all the nutrients required for having perfect skin and this is where beauty supplements come in handy.  They are an important element of skin care since they complement the normal diet and thus guaranteeing a constant supply of nutrients to the skin. This ensures that there is no deficiency whatsoever and hence no risk of skin malnutrition. The role of beauty supplements is significant when it comes to developing healthy skin which is also beautiful. This is mainly because of the fundamental role that the nutrients available in the beauty supplements play in ensuring skin beauty.

However, these supplements should not be used as a substitute for a good diet. They should always be used to complement it: to guarantee a healthy and beautiful skin. This is because a good nutrient is the number one secret to healthy looking beautiful skin.

Skincare Loves Lately

Hello my darlings!

How are you today? ♥

I've been enjoying my busy week, and it's going to be my first payday soon. Which naturally means getting new nail art stuff, as I have a list of things I've been craving to get for a while now. I'm hoping that next week won't be this busy and all, so I could actually write daily instead of scheduling posts like I've done lately. It's all about getting my life schedule together and I'm sure next week it'll all be alright.

Today, I wanted to talk to you about some skincare products I've been loving lately.

DSC06798 (Large)
I've never mentioned this much, but my skin tends to break out quite a bit, especially in the dry weather (winter, we're so not friends), when I'm stressed out or when I clean my makeup poorly. Also, I have a bad habit of touching my face too much once it starts breaking out, which naturally makes it worse.

Couple of weeks ago, the nice people of Reddville sent me some acne products for testing. I was pretty thrilled, as the stress of the spring has been quite a lot for my skin (especially the face).

DSC07097 (Large)

The products I've been testing lately are Basiderm Oil Control Foam Wash and Basiderm Oil Control Moisturizer. Basiderm products are only available in pharmacies, and even though these two don't necessarily cure acne, they promise to help keep the skin clean moisturized throughout the day. Basiderm also has medical creams for acne, but so far I haven't needed to try those out.

So what's my verdict about the products?

I was pretty scared that the products would make my face dry out like many face washes and matte finish moisturizers do, but once I found the right time to use them (face wash after removing my makeup, and applying the moisturizer when I go to sleep), I haven't had a problem. I tried out putting the moisturizer under a matte finish foundation, but that didn't work out too well for my skin type.

I have a sensitive skin, so it's important to use right products for it. These don't seem too harsh on my skin, and I think I can say that these have made a little improvement on my skin so far. It feels cleaner and looks a little brighter. I can't say that any miracles have happened, but it certainly hasn't made anything worse. Obviously need to keep using these for a couple of months before my final word on them, but so far I'm liking them a lot. They don't have a strong scents to them, which is nice when you talk about products you put on your face.

Of course as with all skincare, I believe a good diet, enough exercise and lot of water are essentials no matter what products you decide to use. But these, I think, are worth trying if you have an oily skin. It probably couldn't hurt, right?

What are your trusted products for skincare? Let me know in the comments!

Now, I will stop my blabbering for today, and will be back tomorrow with another post. Stay tuned for that my darlings!

Have a lovely day ♥

Sunny Day With Hawaiian Tropic ♥

Hello lovelies!

How are you all? ♥

It's so nice and sunny here in Finland and I've been enjoying my free afternoons outside - except for today, when I've had like a thousand things to do inside. Boo. But today, I really wanted to share this quick little post with you, and on the bottom, there's a little surprise for my Finnish readers (sorry my international friends, but this wasn't up to me).

The following products have been sent to me as a collaboration. However, the opinions are my own and I don't post about things I don't like or approve of.

 photo DSC08782Large.jpg

Few days back, the mailman came with this package I didn't remember ordering. What was inside?

 photo DSC08780Large.jpg

A lovely basket from Reddville SheSocial, who have this nice campaign with Hawaiian Tropic that I was lucky enough to get in along other great bloggers. I received four delicious smelling products that are said to pamper my skin during and after sunbathing. Well, after smelling them through, I totally agree that they smell amazing. And yesterday, I actually put three of these to the test as I was having my first proper beach sunbathing of this summer.

 photo DSC08882Large.jpg

First, I started with a clean and dry skin, and applied a layer of the Tanning Oil. Now, for those who don't know, this isn't a self-tanner or anything, but it is - I think - to help you get a tan a bit easier or so. I've never tried this before, so it was pretty exciting. This doesn't have a sunscreen in it, so I wouldn't leave the house without a sunscreen. This one smells like coconut and it feels pretty good on the skin.

 photo DSC08886Large.jpg

At the beach, I had this low protection Dry Spray Oil with me. It has SPF 10, which really, to me, is very low, but for the sake of experimenting, I reasoned it's enough for now. This also smells like coconut, so I didn't feel weird putting this on top of the tanning oil when the sun started to feel a bit too hot on my skin.

 photo DSC08888Large.jpg

After the sunbathing, I got home and washed off the oils from my skin. They were pretty easy to clean, even with the dry spray oil being water resistant. Then, I added the After Sun Moisturizing Lotion, which felt pretty soothing on my skin, and it smells like tropical fruits with a hint of aloe vera. So it's a nice product to add on the previously sun-kissed skin.

The one I didn't get to try out so far is the SPF 30 Sunscreen, but it feels nice, and it smells pretty tropical as well, so I can definitely see myself trying that out later this summer - maybe already this weekend.

 photo DSC08781Large.jpg

Now, for my Finnish readers out there:

Guest Post: Feel Beautiful In The Skin You're In ♥

Today's post is brought to you by the lovely Gwen Lewis. She has provided many great articles around the web and I feel honored she wanted to write a post to my blog. So, if you are into skincare stuff, keep reading!

Feel Beautiful In The Skin You're In

Every woman wants to feel beautiful. And while many times that beauty starts with what's on the inside, the outside has to feel it as well. For instance, if your skin is dry and itchy or oily and not clean, it can be hard to feel as beautiful as you truly are.

Additionally, to really feel great about yourself, you have to feel good about what you're putting both in and on your body. As we all know, a healthy diet full of natural foods can do wonders for you both inside and out. And just as important are the beauty and skin care products you're using -- if they're full of ingredients that are not good for your skin, then you're wasting your time and money, and possibly causing your skin to not be its best.

So how can you make sure that skin care products you're using every day are worth your effort? That comes from knowing both what ingredients to avoid, and what ingredients are
worth the splurge. Here's a look at a few ingredients in both categories.

Ingredients to Avoid

Parabens -- Parabens can be found in a number of beauty and skin care products. The FDA says parabens are used in these products to stunt the growth of microbials. However, according to an article on Huffington Post, parabens act like estrogen in a woman's body and a study in 2012 found parabens in almost 100 percent of all cancerous breast tumors.

Formaldehyde -- Formaldehyde and FRPs (formaldehyde-releasing preservatives) can be found in quite a few beauty products, as they help stop bacteria from growing. However, the ingredients can cause skin irritation and there has even been a link between formaldehyde and leukemia.

Artificial Colors -- Color additives are regulated by the FDA, however that does not mean you necessarily want to rub them all of your body. These synthetic colors are normally made from petroleum or coal tar, and a study in 2007 linked artificial coloring to ADHD in children.

PEGs -- According to the David Suzuki Foundation, PEGs (or polyethylene glycols) are petroleum-based compounds found in a variety of cream-based cosmetics. When made, PEGs may be contaminated with other substances that are possible human carcinogens and are harmful to the human body.

Ingredients Worth the Splurge

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) -- Dr. Oz names this one of the top 5 ingredients to look for in skin care products due to its powerful anti-aging, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. ALA is also 400 times stronger than vitamins E and C combined!

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) -- Naturally derived from the sugars of fruit or milk, AHAs help your skin shed their dead skin cells to reveal a healthy glow and the new skin underneath, according to an article on Oprah.com. Plus AHAs can help fix discoloration and shrink pores.

Ceramides -- Ceramides naturally occur in our skin, however our body's production decreases as we get older. Scientists have found a way to take ceramides from whole grain wheat that can be used by humans for their skin, providing moisture, firmness and protection.

Hyaluronic Acid -- Also naturally occurring in the body -- it keeps joints lubricated -- hyaluronic acid is now being used to help plump up and soften the skin.

June LivBox

Hiya babes!

How are you all today? ♥

I've been having amazing time with my boys the past few days - and hence have not been so active online. :) But yesterday, our mailman brought me a nice package for me, and I thought I should share that with you today.

 photo DSC02259bLarge.jpg

The package was, of course, the latest edition of LivBox, and I was happy to see the chosen theme was Summer, and the color this month was sunny orange.

 photo 2503260d-8ae8-4884-a398-859d6c7bcc8a.jpg

 photo 48b0e62b-b637-48ab-844c-cb716d64cc51.jpg

The list of products got me pretty curious, as they were brands I had heard of, but never dared to try them out. So this is a great chance to get to know them more.

 photo 55d841c5-8479-499f-a388-dae0f92fa637.jpg

 photo eafe268a-a73f-4b17-a8c8-b54974029623.jpg

Under the orange wrapping there was a nice bunch of products, and three of them were actually the normal size instead of sample size.

 photo DSC02267Large.jpg

Clarins Skin Perfecting Cream

A BB cream with a hint of perfume to it. Promises to blend in perfectly, includes sunscreen, and is supposedly good for the skin. I only tried this on my hand so far, but it seems impressive. I will test drive this better when my current BB cream runs out.

 photo 41b3df6a-9469-4ce6-bb06-badd6a98ddf0.jpg

Olay Total Effects Day Moisturizer

Another moisturizer from these boxes. Some people think it's lame there are these each month, but I find it convenient, since it's easier to look fresh when your skin is feeling well. This moisturizer comes with SPF 15, which is awesome for summer, and it also clears out the signs of ageing. (Not too important for me yet, but nice feature anyways.) The smell is pleasant - reminds me bit of a sunscreen, actually - but not too powerful. So this fits for a allergic person such as me. The cream moisturizes the skin instantly and absorbs very quickly as well. Totally a great product for summer - especially when it's such a convenient size. ;)

 photo DSC02271Large.jpg

Piz Buin Tan & Protect Tan Intensifying Sun Lotion

These tan intensifying sun lotions are a new thing for me, so I don't really have an opinion about them. I actually bought one this month, but haven't busted it out just yet. This one, however, smells quite nice and spreads nicely to the skin. I need to try this out on a super sunny day before really giving any more details about it, but it seems promising.

 photo DSC02272Large.jpg

Depend Nail Polish - Shade 318

Cute minty/pistachio-like shade with a tiny metallic glow. I have tried Depend before, and for such an affordable brand, the polishes are pretty good. The size of them is nice even for travelling, and they come in such many colors that anyone can find their favorite there. So, for a girl who likes to do their nails, but doesn't want to spend too much on polish, I would recommend this brand quite warmly. This isn't necessarily my go-to shade in the summer, but I'm sure I'll find use to it in Autumn. (Or when I get a better tan, whichever comes first.)

 photo DSC02274Large.jpg

MSCHIC Lip Kiss Lip Gloss - Shade French Pink

Very cute nude shade, with a tiniest hint of gold to it. Looks so much better on lips than on the tube. Isn't as sticky as most of the lip glosses, which is super cool. It is very shiny, and quite rich in pigment even with only a thin coat on. As I like strong eye makeup, this lip gloss is a perfect addition to my makeup bag, since it makes it easy to bring out the lips without making the whole look too heavy.

 photo DSC02276Large.jpg

Sebamed After Sun Soothing Balm

The perfect summer product. It takes care of the skin after sun, sooths, cools down and prevents the skin from premature aging (from the sun). The balm feels really nice on the skin, and I really think it will work wonders on sun-kissed skin. I need to try this out next time I spend a long time in the sunlight. I think it's super fun they gave out this product on full size instead of sample size, as you get to properly try it out.

Now, what do you have to say about these products? Have you tried any of them? Would you recommend them - or do they have better alternatives on the market? Share your thoughts! ♥

I'm off now, to catch up on my TV shows and eat something (I'm starving here...) but I'll get back to business as soon as I can. ;)

Have a fantastic week! ♥

Blog ya later,

xoxo

Johanna

February LivBox

Hey lovelies!

Are you having a fun week? ♥

I just got back from Stockholm this morning, and I'm so tired I can't even describe it. We had so much fun on our school trip, and there's a lot of photos I will post later on. When I got home I noticed I had a little package waiting for me at the post office, so I rushed off to get it home, and once I did, I was pleasantly surprised to notice that it was my very first LivBox I had ordered last month.

For those who don't know, LivBox is kind of an equivalent for the infamous Glossybox. But as Glossybox isn't available in Finland, I was more than happy to welcome the LivBox concept and decided to try it after seeing it featured in one of my favorite blogs, Curiouser & Curiouser. And below you can see the February LivBox in pictures.

 photo DSC09109.jpg

The box itself was packaged in a cute, simple way, which I personally liked a lot.

 photo cf75d4e6-c97e-45c2-af16-379c36ec3da4.jpg

I was so excited when I saw the pink wrapping inside the box...

 photo de705811-b3ed-4997-a67c-6e1255124e5a.jpg

...and when I read the list of things included in the box, I got even more excited!

 photo DSC09114.jpg

And then the products inside. Only of them was familiar to me before getting this package, and the other ones I will be testing as soon as I get the chance.

 photo DSC09116.jpg

The biggest item in the package was Love Story Body Butter by We Care Icon. I have eyed their products in the stores, but have never been curious enough to buy any, so this is a nice opportunity to try the brand out.

 photo DSC09118.jpg

The one I was completely familiar with was Essie nail polish in the shade Muchi Muchi. I happen to have this one already, but it's such a pretty shade I gladly welcome a spare bottle into my collection. (Oh, and if you're interested in an updated nail art stash post , just say the word. I would be happy to do that.)

 photo DSC09120.jpg

Next ones are three little tubes of Olay products from the brand's Regenerist line, and even though I'm kinda feeling I'm still a bit young for these products, I might test drive them out. These would be perfect for traveling, as I tend to look pretty tired and washed out on the road.

 photo DSC09122.jpg

And then there were three different fragrances, one for men, and two for women. I was thrilled to know there might sometimes be these little gifts for men as well, as I can share the fun better with my fiance this way. I might bust out the Gaga fragrance already in the morning, to see how it acts when worn the whole day.

All in all, the box seems like a great deal, when you think that the Essie polish alone costs as much in Finland as the whole box. My Finnish readers can go see more about the LivBox in their website, where you can also register for your own package of goodies. I can't wait to get the next box, it's like having a Christmas or birthday when opening this box.

Have you subscribed for any of this kind of monthly goodies, and how has that been for you? Share your thoughts in the comments! ♥

I'm off to bed now, and I try to catch enough rest for the busy day tomorrow. I hope you're all having a fantastic start for your weekend - and I'll be back as soon as I possibly can!

Blog ya later!

xoxo
