What 2022 Taught Me

Hey Lovelies!

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Slytherin photoshoot 18

I was planning on coming back much earlier, but life got in the way - in the best way possible, I’d say. 2022 was in many ways a rollercoaster, but the latter half made me feel like I’m finally alive after the slump of the pandemic. Since the last updates, a lot has changed. So, let’s list some personal highs and lows of the year to start off this post:

Having Minimal Change Disease as an Adult - My Experience So Far (3 Months After Diagnosis)

If you’re coming from my IG there’s a high chance you know this, but about 3 months ago, I got diagnosed with a kidney disease called Minimal Change Disease.

You can go to this website to read more in English, but I’m here today to tell my own story as an adult with MCD.

What happened to me?

Like I said, my journey started 3 months ago, when I first noticed one ankle swelling like a balloon. I thought nothing of it because apart from the ankle, nothing hurt. I thought I had just stepped wrong/had bad shoes on my walk and that’s it. We went to the summer cabin, all the while the swelling kept getting worse, and when I finally went to see a nurse a week and a half later, I had swelling on my lids, fingers and such.

Things 2020 has taught me

I don’t usually get super deep and raw here, but today it felt like I kind of could. I’ve been listing things I have learned or re-learned during the past year, and if any of these points resonate with you, I would love to hear more (use dms or leave the comment anonymous if you don’t want to have anyone to have access to what you share, both are fine for me).

What I Want To Achieve In 2021

Hey my lovelies!

My few days’ hiatus turned into a month of blog silence, but it did good to my mental health. My work routine changed quite a bit, so finding extra energy was really tough. I’m trying to write posts beforehand now, so that we would have a backlog of few posts all the time in order to not have these long breaks.

Today, I wanted to start the year off with talking about the things I want to achieve this year - and if you’re willing to, I would love you to share your goals in the comments as well! So, without further ado, let’s get to it!

Wisdom Wednesday: Studying With a Full Time Job (My Experience)

Today's post is half advice/tips, half a "what's going on with my life" post. I wanted to write this because I'm sure there are other people in similar situation or people who think about taking up a bit of studying while working full time. To be honest, it can be a hard thing to do, depending on what you do for a job and what and how much you want/need to study, but I'm here to tell you about things that make it all doable for me. If that's something you'd be interested in, keep on reading.

Wisdom Wednesday: 30 Things I've Learned In 30 Years

This is a cliche and a half of a post, but it felt like something fun to post so here we go: 30 things I've learned in 30 years, in no particular order. I feel like much of an intro isn't necessary as you probably have seen these kinds of posts before. I originally planned on posting this on my birthday but it felt a little tone-deaf then taken what was going on on the internet, so I postponed it... to almost three months later but here we are. Better late than never and am still 30, and still very much believe these statements.

Wisdom Wednesday: We Must Do Better

I thought I'd be getting back to blogging with something way more lighter but with what's been happening in the US (the George Floyd case and more), hopping here to talk about just skin care or something felt a little tone deaf. So instead, I'm using my little space on the Internet to share some resources that I've been familiarizing with lately in order to find ways to help people who are victims of racism. Being a (white) Finn, it's hard to picture a society where people have to actively be scared because if their skin color, and moreover to be afraid of police. And that right there is my privilege speaking. Privilege, which I would rather use for greater good - and that's exactly what I'm trying to do with this post.

To be honest with you, I'm not an expert in any shape or form in these issues, but just a person wanting to do something so that people won't have to live in fear. My extended family just recently grew with couple of little babies, and it would break me if they had to live in fear just because of something they're born with - yet that's the reality for too many people. That's not okay, and none of us should tolerate that.

How to Stay Productive on Shorter Days

Today's topic is another one I'm quite passionate about, and that's how to be productive even when on this hemisphere the days are getting shorter and the lack of daylight can make one tired and unmotivated. If that's something you struggle with, I'm here to share my tips on how I stay grinding even when it feels a little hard. Now, since the internet promotes the unhealthy 24/7 grind, my responsibility to you is to say that my tips and tricks are not supposed to, by any means, encourage you to an unhealthy grind, especially not long-term. But rather, this should be helping you to have a lifestyle that supports you to reach your goals and dreams.

Does that sound good to you? If it does, keep on reading!

Happy Halloween (and where have I been)

Hey my loves, it's been a while. I've had to put my life first and my internet life second for a bit, hence why I skipped my favorite blogging season this year. For my family's privacy, I don't want to get in too deep about things, but our family lost a member in September very suddenly. While I usually don't go into all the bad things that goes on in my life, as I want this space to be positive and inspiring, and don't really know if sharing my struggles really is that.

So this little hiatus was me trying to cope with the loss, be there for my family, but also for re-balance my life. Which I can happily announce I've done. There were great ideas for Halloween posts, but I'll save the timeless ones for next year when we can do this better. However today, I wanted to come here and share snapshots of our Halloween decor and let you in the loop what's been going on.

Montreal Diaries: Exploring Saint-Denis & Downtown

Hello lovelies! How are you today? ♥ It's been too long since my last post, and I've been missing you quite a bit. Last week went by in jet lag and getting back to work mode, and this week I've been busy editing the pictures and all that so that's where I've been. But if you follow me on Instagram, you have seen me being alive and well.

And no, I'm not going anywhere, this was just a break that was needed right now. Today, I'm showing you first pictures from Montreal. These are little bit in a random order maybe, but they show you what we saw on the first full day in Canada:

NYE Party

Hey babes! How are you? ♥ Sorry for the lazy schedule at blogging, there's been quite a bit going on in life. I'm trying to figure out a decent schedule for posting in these couple of weeks, so please be patient with me. One thing bumming me out about posting is not having any outfits to post due the combination of cold and dark days and I don't want to just post nail stuff even though I have a lot of those in store. I'm sure it gets better very soon though, as the days get longer. However, today, I'm sharing bits of our NYE party (mainly decorations).

We had such a good time with our friends on New Year's playing games, having drinks and eating unhealthy food. I don't even remember having more fun NYE than we did this time, and I'm so, so grateful for all the people that were there for being amazing. I really don't have much to say about the pictures here that you can't tell by looking at them, so here we go:

Snapshots from Amusement Park

Hey lovelies!

How are you today? ♥

As the Autumn is fully here (and October, yay!), I think it's appropriate to say goodbye summer through these pics from the trip me and the boys did to the amusement park Powerpark last month. I really don't have many words to describe the pics, but we had tons of fun out there. I hope the pics can tell you at least some of that.

This ride was pretty darn scary. The dragon tower. It goes super high up and comes down as free fall. Scary as heck, I was literally shaking few minutes after this, when usually none of the rides give me any chills at all.

DSC00053 (Large)DSC00054 (Large)DSC00055 (Large)DSC00056 (Large)

All but one in the same shot, and I'm looking like my dwarf self next to boys. The photo was taken by our bestman J, thanks a bunch for it dear! As you can see, it was quite a fun day out, though we didn't take nearly enough group shots (boys, we totally need to do that!). But I got to drive go-kart against them, and even though I'm not too good at it, I beat my own expectation. Sadly, I didn't get any shots from there, but I can tell I rocked the oversized overalls.

What fun memories do you have from this summer? Tell me in the comments below!

I'm gonna hit the bed now, but I'll be back quite soon with another post. In the meantime, you can stay tuned with me in social media, where I post a lot of updates (especially on Instagram) between the posts. See you all soon!

Have a fantastic day ♥

And of course, Halloween!

These are my favorite things about Autumn time (although I do have even more things I love, like rainy days, new TV series, reading...), and the things that make me inspired every Autumn.

What are you favorites this season? Let me know in the comments!

I will go now, but I'll be back soon with another post. I'm guessing next one might be nail related, but we'll see what I will come up with. Also, I'm happy to tell you I've started prepping my Halloween posts for this year (I'm so early, I know) and hope I can get something good for you to see next month. Before that, remember to follow me on social media for sneak peeks and more fun things along the way.

Our Wedding Party

Hey lovelies!

How was your weekend? ♥

We've been chilling at home and I've been doing some stuff for school as well as shooting for the blog (and Instagram) and playing some video games. The relaxation has been necessary. Today, I'm finally sharing some pictures from our wedding, which aren't that many because our party was quite private - and because most pictures were of our loved ones and I don't really want to share their pics without their permission. I won't actually be blabbering more than this, but I will rather let the pictures speak for themselves.

DSC08812 (Large)DSC08816 (Large)DSC08823 (Large)IMG_3669 (Large)IMG_3673 (Large)IMG_3679 (Large)IMG_3746 (Large)IMG_3747 (Large)IMG_3869 (Large)IMG_3872 (Large)

So there, bits and pieces from our special day. There's still a lot of things to do, like thank you cards, changing my name to all the cards, getting new email addresses and so on. (Which makes me want to write about a kind of "what to remember when getting married" sort of post for those of you who haven't yet gone through all this.) Our wedding was pretty casual event with our closest friends, and we feel like it was absolutely perfect that way. We got to celebrate our future life together with the people we love, and that's all we needed.

I can't wait to create an actual album with paper pictures during this Autumn so that I can go through that with friends and family in the future and remember the happy moments we all had that day. And with our friends, also in the evening. I feel so blessed because we have so many amazing people in our lives that we can call friends and family - and I can't wait to start our own little one with this man. (Although, don't expect babies just yet.)

I hope you all liked this little peek to our wedding ♥

I need to go to bed now, since tomorrow, I need to take care of some post-wedding things, and I need to look fresh for that (who else loves passport pics?). I will be back tomorrow with another post, so stay tuned for that. And also, follow me on social media for more frequent updates!

Have a fantastic start for the new week!

Gluten Free Life - One Year Update

Hey lovelies!

How are you today? ♥

I've been thinking about writing this post for a while now, and today I'm finally sitting down and typing it for you. I hope this can be inspiring, comforting and maybe educating, even.

As many of you might remember, I got diagnosed with celiac disease about a year ago (last July), and have been eating gluten free since. It certainly has been  life change, and today I want to talk about how the past year has been for me.

One Year Gluten Free

So, what having celiac disease means is not being able to eat wheat, barley or rye - because they make your body sick. Luckily, the treatment for the disease is to eat the right food (albeit more pricey one), so compared to many others, this isn't too bad. Of course, if you are super sensitive or have the type of celiac that gives you skin rash, it's definitely not a walk in the park. As a person who nearly downs everything that doesn't run away from the plate, adjusting to watching what I eat has been a bit challenging. But on the other hand, being able to everything also helps when I've had to remove the unholy trinity from my diet.

So thanks mom for raising a girl that isn't afraid of any dishes!

How being gluten free has worked for me so far?

I don't have nearly any friends who are celiacs, even though few eat gluten free because of gluten sensitivity or because their body just feels better without it. So I get some questions abut my diet every once in a while, one of them being "Has it felt any different since starting the new diet?".

And the truth is, it feels different. Because it feels better. So here's a list of some pros and cons I personally feel about my diet:

Pros
+ I have more energy
+ I don't feel nauseated so often
+ I'm not bloated every day
+ I don't feel as stressed
+ most restaurants (in Finland) can handle the diet pretty well
+ it is a chance to network with people all around the world
+ there's quite a lot recipes on the Internet
+ there are more and more foods out in the market for celiacs

Cons
it's more expensive than "normal" food
- you need to be careful with what you put in your mouth
- you need to have it in you to stand up for yourself to get the right kind of food everywhere
- it can give you some social anxiety
- some of my favorite foods are not on my menu anymore

I wouldn't change my diet back since I'm feeling so good with my body right now, and there are still more pros than cons - obviously, as this is my medication. I know some people think having celiac disease ruins or life - I don't agree to that. It may be a challenge, but at least you have food to eat (as I feel this is more first world disease).

How I feel about eating gluten free just for the trend

Some people think that you should do gluten free for fun or for trend, which is kind of questionable if you go to restaurant and ask gluten free but still order something that potentially has a lot of gluten in it, it might sometimes confuse the waiters as they don't necessarily know whole lot about celiac disease and how strict you should be with it. Because not that many people truly know about it if it doesn't really touch them too much.

But of course, if you like gluten free food, by all means eat it. It can give the signal that there's demand fr more gluten free products and I feel it's good for celiacs. So you know, there's many sides to it.

There are not that much scientific health benefits for eating gluten free for fun, but if your body feels better that way, why not do it. I like the fact I've gotten some of my normally eating friends to try out the gluten free alternatives, and that they have actually liked most of them. But to make my point, I don't mind if someone eats whatever is trendy because I believe it can encourage companies to bring out more gluten free options. I know many of my fellow celiacs may feel trend eaters are bad and I get it, but I choose to see the positive in it (as a marketing and business student, too).

Is the gluten free diet really a big deal?

I think this kind of depends on you point of view, but I'd say it's still quite a big deal. Like with any allergy, you have to make sure you don't get the bad ingredients in your food, you need to educate people around you, you have to stand up for yourself... The worst part for me are some little traditions that include foods, as with those I need to be careful and try to change them into my diet and so on. It can be mentally challenging at first - and for some all the time - but I feel it's totally something you can overcome. It set challenges in many social situations, sure, but it can be taken as a learning experience.

And it brings so much positive with it I don't mind that much about the negatives.

How to handle friends/family who feel it's a super big deal?

I get so awkward when people make a big deal of the things in my life, so that's why I'm including this. Of course it is important that people take this seriously, no doubt about that. And I appreciate that people feel for me for my diet since I'm kind of forced into it. But as I personally feel it's just food, as in fuel that gets you from one day to another, it's just important there is some. My way of going is to thank people for being considerate, and letting them know I love that they care, but then calming them by telling that I still live a normal life, I just watch what I eat. In the era of people choosing to be vegans, vegetarians, eating just raw food, not eating red meat etc., it's not that weird to have a certain diet you follow.

And I usually tell that this is a diet for champions as I've heard few athletes to do it as well. ;)

How to educate people about gluten free living?

As with any lifestyle, you should tell the pros and cons about the diet. Also, if you are celiac like me, you can also tell what that is all about. Let them know your favorite dishes, share recipes, show food inspo... You can do quite a lot.

The biggest concern people seem to have is whether my food is good. That's probably because not too long ago (I've heard) the gluten free food has been quite poor consistency (the cakes, bread, etc.), very dry and even weird tasting. I usually ease people's minds by letting them taste my foods, and they end up being positively surprised. I also try t show I actually have quite many options I can eat, so no one should be concerned about me.

How to handle social situations with food?

If it's get-together with friends, I offer to either bring some on my own, to help with shopping and cooking or to provide gluten free recipes and info on where to buy gluten free food. If it's going to a restaurant, I like to do some research beforehand to know if the place does gluten free food (I google menus, reviews, and sites that recommend gluten free places), so I can be sure I can actually eat something (more than a salad).

I get how to some, the social situations with food might be awkward, and I can say, even to me it gives anxiety at times. But it's important to remember food is the cure here, so it's no causing a scene if you make sure your food is good enough for your body, and you're not rude for asking questions. Gluten can cause days worth of pain for a celiac, so everyone should learn it's kind of serious. I'm personally always happy when gluten free options are printed on menus, because then the responsibility is basically the restaurant's - although it's usually good to mention you need your dish absolutely gluten free so that kitchen gets the message too (and doesn't touch your food after petting bread).

My advice, all in all for this is just to go with it, gluten free diet is just as normal a any other one. Just stand up and be clear about it. It can't go too wrong.

Do you have any special diet, or a story related to this? Let me know in the comments below!

Now, I will head to bed and hopefully tomorrow I can get an outfit post out for you. Follow me on social media for lighter updates than this. I love you all a lot, so see you soon!

Have a fabulous day ♥

Chillin' In Kuopio ♥

Hey lovelies!

How are you all? ♥

The last couple of days went by incredibly fast, as my dear friend was visiting us as a surprise. It was pretty fun and we got to catch up properly (and shop a little, too), which was a boost I totally needed right before starting school again. Today, I'm just chilling out and going through our closets a bit, as there's lots of old stuff I don't need and I seriously need to de-clutter. Can't seem to never stop with that, haha.

Anyway, today's post is still about our trip to Kuopio, few pictures from there I really wanna share. These were all taken on Saturday, which was the day we went to a boat trip and to the wine festival.

 photo DSC00132Large.jpg

The little village my parents live in has a gorgeous lake views. That day, we showed the lake a bit more to my fiance, which was the perfect time for my dad to get his boat out.

 photo DSC00141Large.jpg photo DSC00144Large.jpg photo DSC00150Large.jpg photo DSC00154Large.jpg

After the boat trip, me and my fiance headed to the city to see our friends and grab a bite before going to the wine festival. We dined at restaurant Ehta, and the food there was brilliant. I also loved the staff, the guy who waited our table was fantastic.

 photo DSC00160Large.jpg photo DSC00161Large.jpg

After this, we headed to the port for the festival. I was supposed to take photos but got carried away with conversations and simply forgot. Sorry. But nevertheless, I did have the time to take pictures of my outfit of the day:

Jeans: Gina Tricot Boots: SpiritStore Top: H&M Jacket: H&M Necklace: Gina Tricot Bracelet: Boohoo Rings: Born Pretty Store

Again wearing the leopard print top. I'm pretty obsessed. I guess I need to find cute cardigans so that I can rock it in autumn as well. Otherwise, the outfit is pretty basic me. Like you probably know already. ;)

Let me know what you think about the look in the comments below!

Now, I gotta go put on my face so we can head out to the grocery store to buy birthday cake stuff for our friend. See you soon though!

Have fabulous day, dolls ♥

Let's be friends in IG!
