Hey lovelies! How are you today? ♥ I can't believe it's weekend again since it feels like the week has gone so, so fast. But I'm really happy to have a couple of days to sleep in and rest so that I can get rid of this darn flu soon. Today, I've had time to create two new Halloween looks and I can't wait to show them to you all. I'm a couple of posts short of having all ten Halloween looks either posted or as a draft so I'm honestly super happy abut the October content this year.
In case you're not a Halloween person though, I have another more normal post for you:
Today, we're making the autumn mochas that are in Starbucks right now. First one will be Chile Mocha, which is spicy and full of flavor, and the other one is Salted Caramel Mocha, which is sweet, salty and yummy all at the same time.
Above are the ingredients for both drinks, and I actually have some Starbucks blend to make my coffee from. You can also use espresso for these if that's your thing and/or you have an espresso maker.
Starbucks Chile Mocha (recipe from Popsugar)
1/4 teaspoon ancho chile powder
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1/4 cup chocolate chunks
1/4 teaspoon spice mixture
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
2 tablespoons hot water
Whipped cream
In a small bowl, mix together ancho chile powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Set aside.
Into a mason jar with a lid, add chocolate chunks and 1/4 teaspoon of the spice mixture. Microwave uncovered for 30 to 45 seconds, or until the chocolate has melted slightly. Top with milk and put the lid on the jar. Shake for 60 seconds, or until the milk has foamed up and doubled in size. Remove the lid and microwave for an additional 30 to 45 seconds to heat up the milk.
Pour warmed, frothed milk over instant espresso powder mixed with hot water and garnish with whipped cream and a pinch of the spice mixture. Enjoy immediately.
Salted Caramel Mocha (recipe from here)
1 fluid ounce espresso or 3⁄4 cup coffee
1 1⁄2-2 tablespoons caramel sauce
1 -2 tablespoon cocoa powder (the hot chocolate kind, not the unsweetened baking kind)
1 pinch sea salt (Starbucks uses a blend of smoked sea salt and turbinado sugar for sprinkling on top)
1⁄2 cup milk
1 -2 tablespoon whipped cream (optional)
Prepare coffee. Place caramel sauce, cocoa powder and sea salt in a mug. Pour coffee into mug, stirring to combine everything. Heat milk in microwave or on the stove and add to mug, stirring everything to combine. Taste and add more caramel, cocoa and/or salt to taste. Top with whipped cream, caramel sauce and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
These are both super yummy and relatively easy to make, and especially the Chile Mocha is perfect for cold days of autumn. And they taste amazing as dairy free, because that's how I make them always.
