30-Day Declutter Challenge

Today's post will be very photo heavy and probably for acquired taste, but since I'm very proud of my decluttering, I thought I would share this. In case you're not about seeing all the things I gave away/recycled/so on, check back when I post the next article - it will most likely be about style instead of my "trash". But without further ado, let's get to the declutter post!

So the 30-day declutter challenge is something I found on YouTube while researching for inspiration on minimalistic life, declutter and so on. The idea of the challenge is to declutter 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 and so on, up tp day 30 when you declutter 30 items. It sounds little but it does accumulate up to nearly 500 items. I must admit, I don't have every item pictured here - I'm missing four or so days - but if you feel the need to see everything, go to Instagram and see my 30-day declutter highlight for the missing days.

After the first week, I was thinking this is easy. Finding an item or seven that you don't need is not that big of a deal. However, I was in for a bit of a "shock" on how tough this would get at the end.

Day 15 was the midpoint chronologically, but still just a start compared to the other half. I can admit sometimes counting very tiny items as individuals just to get the challenge done but I did find the necessary amount to declutter each day. At the halfway point, I was still thinking this is an easy challenge. So if you are considering this challenge but aren't very familiar with decluttering, I might suggest doing a little easier route at first. Try for example decluttering two items every day for a month. It will still be 60 or so items you declutter, but it's not as extreme as this challenge.

I'm assuming this was day 21. Take a day or two. At this point, I was very much forced to go through the closet again properly (which gave me an opportunity to fold everything the KonMari way so I ain't mad about it) and be a bit more cut-throat with my choices. Every day after the 20th was actually quite hard because that is actually quite the amount of things to declutter each and every day when you've already tried to declutter most of your possessions couple of months earlier. That being said, I will most likely be a bit more critical about the things I will save at our home from now on so that there's no need for challenges like this later on.

Like I said, some pics are missing, but I think these pics give somewhat of an idea of how much I got rid of. I did recycle what I could, but some couldn't be recycled and had to be just thrown away, sadly. I like how this made me think about things I own a bit more, and I'm positive this will encourage me to buy less and declutter a little more in the future. Having fewer things makes it easier to be super organized, which leads to a clearer mind, which in turn leads to being more creative, productive and energized. So if you feel you have anything to declutter, do it. There are only so many things that actually make us happy, and the rest can be more or less decluttered.

Have you decluttered anything lately? Let me know in the comments!

That's it for today's post, and bit of apologies for taking so many days to post this. I had somewhat rough week last week - for no particular reason, just somehow my mood was low, I felt insecure about my blog, my social media, my body and pretty much every other thing. Which is not like me, but I think we all have days we feel not that good about ourselves. But usually, that's a passing thing. As it was with me, and today for example, I'm feeling very good about everything. It's interesting how confidence can flail like that within just few days. Anyways, I'll stop this rambling here, but stay tuned for the next post - which will be up tomorrow - and follow me on Instagram (@silvertigo) for daily outfits and more! I'll see you in the next post!

Have a wonderful day♥
