Hey, my lovelies,
Today I wanted to share some a little style update with you. As you know, my style has gotten more alternative as time has gone by. I am slowly decluttering the blog a bit so not all my tragic outfits will be there for everyone to see, but you can still see bits of the very basic style I used to have. Don't get me wrong, being "basic" is not a bad thing at all, if that's where you're comfortable and feeling true to yourself, but if you're like me and pushing yourself into a box you don't really belong in, "basic" really isn't all that great.
Embracing alternative fashion (to me) is all about expressing my individuality and pushing the boundaries of traditional style. In the past few years, I've curated a collection of clothing pieces that perfectly embody my personal take on alternative fashion. These pieces have become key elements in my day-to-day look, from bold statement items to edgy wardrobe staples. If you're into alternative style and looking for fresh inspiration, keep reading to discover the clothing pieces I love in 2025.
Corsets
I love a good corset. Period. Corsets are such an amazing layering piece, and you can wear them both over and under other pieces, which makes them very versatile even if you just own a couple. (So even if you'd be a capsule wardrobe girlie, it could absolutely be for you!) Personally, I don't naturally have the hourglass-shaped torso I'd love, so corsets are a really amazing way to create an illusion of that (or accentuate the little that I have, whichever way you like to look at it. I've gotten amazing styling tips for corsets from the girlies on Instagram, especially from a creator called @amiraithe (click to check her profile) - who's not only a style genius, but also such a sweetie on the inside. So please do check her out if you'd like to wear more corsets, but don't know where to start!
The corsets pictured here are my favorites from Lively Ghosts, and they bring out a new colorway every once in a while. I personally wear a size M on these, and I feel their sizing runs pretty accurate especially if you pick your size with their size guide.
Long, flowy skirts
The great thing about long skirts is that depending on the tops and accessories you pair them with, they can go from modest to sexy and from daytime to nighttime with just a bit of styling. Bonus points if they have pockets (the ladies will get this). For styling tips for skirts like these, I would yet again recommend checking out @amiraithe - she's taught me the most I know about styling these so far!
The skirts pictured here are from Disturbia. If plaid is not your vibe, they have many different patterns to choose from. This pattern would also be quite realistic to DIY, and I'm hoping to do just that sometime this year. (If I do, I'll surely share it here!)
Fun blouses
There's nothing quite like a pretty blouse to elevate a simple outfit. You probably know I love a good tee or a sweatshirt just as much as any regular girlie out there, but there's just something about a pretty blouse that makes me feel like a better version of myself. The great thing about blouses is that there are so many vastly different styles available, making blouses compatible for most personal styles out there! A good blouse can also double as a layerable piece, going under a corset, over a top (unbuttoned, tied, styled with a belt...), over a top-half of a dress, making the bottom part a skirt... So many possibilities!
These blouses here (from left to right) are from Reserved, CottagecoreWear and Mango.
Band tees
Did I tell you I love a good tee? Well, I love a good print tee the most. I personally love showing my fandoms, whether it's the music I love or the imaginary worlds I adore. And since I not only go to decently many concerts, I also am lucky enough to work in an office that allows us to wear merch on regular days as we please. Therefore, I have numerous chances to rock the pieces I've collected over the years, even on workdays. I'm still on a bit of a journey to find more ways to style the band tees, but I find that a delightful little challenge.
The band tees here (from left to right) are merch for Melissa Bonny, Elize Ryd, and Taylor Swift. (A girl can do many genres.)
Boots
I love good boots that are made for walking. If you've been here since the start of the blog, you know I've loved very high heels and borderline uncomfortable shoes - but since getting into the concert scene, I would rather have shoes I can walk, dance, and jump around without breaking my knees and ankles. So, a lot of my shoe collection now consists of boots of different kinds, most of them without heels.
The boots in the picture (from left to right) are from Dr. Martens, Dr. Martens, and Killstar.
Statement rings
Right up with having my nails always polished, wearing a bunch of fun rings really makes me feel more put together every day. I prefer my rings with colors and shapes that symbolize things to me personally, so you'll see me with animals, flowers, witchy symbols, and green and black stones on most days. In the pic here, you'll see some of my most treasured rings, even though none of these are especially expensive. It's more about what they mean as symbols.
Great places for finding cool rings would be for example RegalRose, Clocks and Colours (previously Etah Love) and Shop Dixi
Harnesses & Belts
I know putting on a harness always makes some asswipe think "oh she likes it rough" (PSA: most harnesses have nothing to do with intimate things, so if you think that, get educated) - but regardless, I like adding them to looks. I'm not inclined to add most of them into office looks, apart from my more subtle ones, but damn does a harness always make me feel more badass. As for the belts, those definitely make me feel like an outfit is more finished, and some great belts also help the waistline be more defined, which is awesome!
My favorite places to hunt for belts are Disturbia, Killstar and secondhand stores.
What are your current style favorites? Sound off in the comments!
Thi post definitely took longer to write than I thought it would, but that's completely fine. I rather get less things up than a bunch of content that has not been polished off and doesn't have my full thought put into them. I'm hoping to get at least one more post up this month, but let's see how that goes. I'm currently figuring out how I'd go about taking outfit pics before it gets warm enough to do that outside or light enough to use natural light even in the evenings, but hopefully later this year we'll have occasional outfit posts between other things. But yeah, hope to write something again soon!
