Guest Post: Feel Beautiful In The Skin You're In ♥

Today's post is brought to you by the lovely Gwen Lewis. She has provided many great articles around the web and I feel honored she wanted to write a post to my blog. So, if you are into skincare stuff, keep reading!

Feel Beautiful In The Skin You're In

Every woman wants to feel beautiful. And while many times that beauty starts with what's on the inside, the outside has to feel it as well. For instance, if your skin is dry and itchy or oily and not clean, it can be hard to feel as beautiful as you truly are.

Additionally, to really feel great about yourself, you have to feel good about what you're putting both in and on your body. As we all know, a healthy diet full of natural foods can do wonders for you both inside and out. And just as important are the beauty and skin care products you're using -- if they're full of ingredients that are not good for your skin, then you're wasting your time and money, and possibly causing your skin to not be its best.

So how can you make sure that skin care products you're using every day are worth your effort? That comes from knowing both what ingredients to avoid, and what ingredients are
worth the splurge. Here's a look at a few ingredients in both categories.

Ingredients to Avoid

Parabens -- Parabens can be found in a number of beauty and skin care products. The FDA says parabens are used in these products to stunt the growth of microbials. However, according to an article on Huffington Post, parabens act like estrogen in a woman's body and a study in 2012 found parabens in almost 100 percent of all cancerous breast tumors.

Formaldehyde -- Formaldehyde and FRPs (formaldehyde-releasing preservatives) can be found in quite a few beauty products, as they help stop bacteria from growing. However, the ingredients can cause skin irritation and there has even been a link between formaldehyde and leukemia.

Artificial Colors -- Color additives are regulated by the FDA, however that does not mean you necessarily want to rub them all of your body. These synthetic colors are normally made from petroleum or coal tar, and a study in 2007 linked artificial coloring to ADHD in children.

PEGs -- According to the David Suzuki Foundation, PEGs (or polyethylene glycols) are petroleum-based compounds found in a variety of cream-based cosmetics. When made, PEGs may be contaminated with other substances that are possible human carcinogens and are harmful to the human body.

Ingredients Worth the Splurge

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) -- Dr. Oz names this one of the top 5 ingredients to look for in skin care products due to its powerful anti-aging, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. ALA is also 400 times stronger than vitamins E and C combined!

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) -- Naturally derived from the sugars of fruit or milk, AHAs help your skin shed their dead skin cells to reveal a healthy glow and the new skin underneath, according to an article on Oprah.com. Plus AHAs can help fix discoloration and shrink pores.

Ceramides -- Ceramides naturally occur in our skin, however our body's production decreases as we get older. Scientists have found a way to take ceramides from whole grain wheat that can be used by humans for their skin, providing moisture, firmness and protection.

Hyaluronic Acid -- Also naturally occurring in the body -- it keeps joints lubricated -- hyaluronic acid is now being used to help plump up and soften the skin.

Gradient vs. Glitter ♥

Heya lovelies!

How are you all? ♥

I finally got my work week done, and it's time for the 4-day weekend (yay!) which will include having a great time with both of our families and such. That means I'll spend tomorrow cleaning the apartment and sorting out my closet and all things like that.

Also, it's been snowing today, which seems weird, but if the forecasts are correct, after this it should get all warmer and spring-like. I really hope so, because I have a ton of outfit ideas but I need warmer weather to actually wear them outside. ;)

Anyway, today I really wanted to share some nail art with you. If some of you are wondering why I have them almond shaped nowadays, it's because squares are simply too fragile to work. The corners get all chipped off and they lose their shape. So I decided I'd get rid of the squares for as long as I work where I work now, and maybe give them another try later on. But I gotta say I've been loving this shape more than  thought.

But, to the art. First up we have this purple gradient with a matte finish that I loved so, so much. I've never been a big fan of purple but on nails it kind of fascinates me a lot.

The polishes I used were China Glaze White On White, Sweet Hook, Charmed, I'm Sure, Grape Pop, Spontaneous, Glitz'N Pieces, and L'Oreál Color Riche 916 Confettis. The matte top coat used is from Born Pretty Store (their own top coat), and the studs are also from there.

Here I also tried the sponges included in the China Glaze Ombré Kit. As I expected, they're not as great as your usual makeup sponges, so if you're into trying out gradient, just trust the makeup sponges.

The other one today is just a simple glitter bomb I threw together for Oscars. I wanted something that has anything to do with the event, and so I decided on lots and lots of glitter.

The polishes I used for this glitter madness are China Glaze Smoke And Ashes, Fairy Dust and Snow Globe. I'm still on the fence whether I actually like this mani of not, but it really has nice elements to it.

The pictures don't really give justice to the glitter, but you know, it's nearly impossible to photo anyway. I love the way the multicolored glitter comes alive on top of the dark polish. Under, you can see a picture with flash just to get a better idea about the glitter. (Gosh, I totally need to learn how to photograph it.)

But that's it for today. I would really like to know what you guys think about these nails, and if you want, you can give suggestions about themed manis you'd like to see here so I can create tutorials for them. ;)

Now, I'll head to bed so I can get up early and get the house sparkling clean for our guests of the weekend! See you soon though, I might have time to post something tomorrow, and on Saturday, you get to enjoy one guest post I'm pretty excited about. So stay tuned!

Have a fabulous day ♥

New Spring Items ♥

Hello my darlings!

How are you all? ♥

I've had longer gaps with the blog posts than I would've wanted to, because I'm dealing with some stuff in my personal life. But not to worry, it's nothing too serious - actually it's something I want to write about later on when I get things in order. But in the meantime, I will show you the results of a little retail therapy I did last week:

 photo DSC07483Large.jpg

A little accessory haul from Boohoo. I have been thinking a lot about how I want my style to really be, and so I needed a little accessory fix to take a step forward to it. (Naturally the next step is cleaning up some unnecessary items from the closet.) You can see elements that I've many times stated being favorites of mine, black, bright pink, studs...

 photo DSC07485Large.jpg

A pair of black over-knee socks, totally something my rock chic looks need - can't wait to wear these!

 photo DSC07497Large.jpg

Another beanie, in neon pink. Do I even need to explain myself with this? Probably not.

 photo DSC07488Large.jpg

Pink sneakers. Because you can not have too many pairs of sneakers. And they're pink.

 photo DSC07490Large.jpg

Studded gloves. These really have to wait for the warmer weather - and a day I actually feel comfortable leaving the house with a stack of rings. They don't cover the hand very far, so they're more of a fashion statement than a warming element.

 photo DSC07494Large.jpg

And lastly, two pairs of sunnies. These are not as appealing to me as my beloved aviators, but I figured I should try out different things. And these were cheap, and just simply plastic, so I won't feel too bad if something happens to them.

That's it for today, hope you liked my little haul. Have you all done any hauls lately? What will your style look like this spring? ♥

Now, I really must head to work, but I try to have another post up tomorrow!

Have a fabulous day ♥

Florally Winter ♥

Well hello there lovelies!

How are you all doing? ♥

I've been a little MIA for some days but actually for a good reason, as I have been spending time with my loved ones, loading my mental batteries and such. But actually I also got around taking some outfit photos outside as it was sunny instead of the usual rain and clouds, which was so, so nice!

Anyway, today I wanted to share this little outfit I wore a while ago, but couldn't take photos outside because the weather was so cold and I couldn't imagine shooting this with a coat on.

Top: Gina Tricot Skirt: DIY Boots: SpiritStore Vest: H&M Beanie: DIY Watch: Born Pretty Store Bracelets: Gina Tricot, H&M Necklaces: Gina Tricot

So a simple outfit with one of my favorite skirts - even if it's homemade - and other elements I really, really like. I'm dreaming of sewing another skirt like that, as well as some other items, pretty soon, as I'll be having a week long holiday from work after a couple of weeks. But yeah, to the point... This was a nice outfit to hang out in, and it had a quite spring-y feeling to it, after the long, long winter, which is very nice.

What do you guys think about this look? ♥

Now, it's time for me to read some blogs, do my nails and play with my Wreck This Journal a bit and just chill out for the rest of the night. I'll see you very soon, though!

Have a fabulous day! ♥
