Green Nails

It's been a ridiculous while from my last post, but the break from both work and blogging has been needed. It's given me the chance to work on my Instagram feed and offline projects, which is really wonderful to be honest. I did, however write ahead on the posts I will be publishing from this day forward, so no, I haven't abandoned or forgotten my blog at all, don't worry. I'm still thinking doing a bit of re-branding here as well, because I don't feel the content gives enough to you guys. Sure the manis may inspire you and the few outfits I share are fun in my opinion, but there's probably more I could give to you.

For example, I've been trying my best to help out a couple of friends by giving them lifestyle and relationship advice, and they've said the advice has been helpful. I know there are dozens of good life advice creators on every platform, but I'm thinking maybe giving my two cents on certain topics might be interesting. And maybe those could be inserted into the posts with nail art or outfits and therefore there would be balance of fun and informative. What do you guys think about that?

Birthday Girl Haul & My Unicorn Party

At the beginning of this month, I had my birthday. And I kind of celebrated for a week. Which is - like the title tells - what this post is about. If you're interested in seeing more about that, read along, and if not, come back for the next post which will be about other things.

Who wants to get back into nail art posts? Because I sure do. Today, I'm sharing pictures from a little while back as I have been lacking in blogging for some weeks now. I've tried to plan my life and have routines so I could better fit blogging in, but to be honest it was hard for a while. Now, I think the routines have settled in their place enough for me to add writing the posts in.

But now, without further ado, I'll show you the nails:

Festival Outfit Lookbook - Inspired by Elize Ryd

Headed to a rock festival this year but not knowing what to wear? I got you covered girl.

In this post, you can see six looks inspired the queen of metal looks, Elize Ryd. I've said time and time again how I love her style, and while I can't wear these looks to the office nor am I going to too many festivals this year to showcase them for you the regular way, creating a lookbook with them  felt like a nice idea. So without further ado, let's get into it.

Trying Victoria's Secret Models Inspired Diet - The Results

I know I promised this post to be up so much earlier. I'm sorry about the delay, but let's make this more useful one since it's late, okay?

This diet/exercise regime has actually brought a lot of good into my life. And that's what I will be talking about today. I'm hoping this post will inspire you to do a better life choice today, no matter what that will be and how small one it will be. And it doesn't have to be about weight at all.

Rainbow Nails

It's a new week with new opportunities. Today I had to be extra efficient at the office as I was on a work trip the past two work days and that means a bit of piled up things as you can imagine. Today I also tried to get ahead of as many things as possible so that this week's trip won't make my Friday into a chaos. This month is truly flying by, haha.

Grunge Inspired Outfit

A week of work and a couple of work trips behind, feeling tired but also the trips, as well as many other things at work, felt super good this week. I don't know where this positivity is coming from but can we keep it that way, please? I'm going to keep today's post quite short since it is after all "just" an outfit, but I am planning longer posts as well for those of you who enjoy reading more.

Hey lovelies and welcome to a scheduled post I prepped for you so that you will have content even when my workdays are long and I can't be sure if I have the time to write anything. Today, I've been on a worktrip to another city for our customer event, and I'm predicting I won't have the energy to sit on the computer after the thing. So, I wrote this one already on Tuesday together with 5 other posts to keep you entertained for a while. Hope you like that.

But now, let's get into the nail art!

Trying Victoria's Secret Models Inspired Diet For 2 Weeks - The Start

Lately it seems there has been a bit of a wave of "I tried ___ diet for a week" type of videos on YouTube, especially from Blair Walnuts. And that inspired me to try out a diet that is inspired by the kind of one Victoria's Secret models claim they follow. I gave myself an easier time with the dinners, because we eat the same food as dinner with my boyfriend and it doesn't make sense sustainably that we cook different meals just because of the challenge. But my breakfast, lunch and snacks were determined by the VS meal plans I managed to find on the Internet.

Pop of Pink - and thoughts about blogging

It's been longer since the last post than I would've wanted. Last week was a mental rollercoaster for many reasons and I still don't fully feel like myself but I'll get there soon. Today, I wanted to share this little outfit with you and just chit chat a bit.

Thrifting the Trends - Bleached Denim

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend so far. I've been enjoying not being online so much, which really is good for the brain as at the office, I'm on computer all day for the most days, and that's unhealthy as it is, but also I've chose to have blogging as a hobby and try to be active in several social medias - especially Instagram - so I get maybe a bitt too much of the Internet/computer time constantly. Shutting off from it from time to time feels amazing.

This post is another part to the series "Thrifting the Trends", where I take the trends predicted on runwqays for the season SS19, and create them either by using what I already have, by thrifting or by DIYing the items. So I'm trying to show how most if not all trends can be recreated without necessarily going to the fast fashion shops and contributing to the problematic industry just because you're on a budget. The inspiration for the looks comes from the trend reports on Vogue and Pantone, one focusing on styles and other on colors.

Happy Friday - and happy Easter weekend for those who celebrate it. I plan on eating well and relaxing which is why this post has been written beforehand so that I don't necessarily have to touch the computer during the long weekend.

Geometric Nails

Today's post is about nails again. If you haven't noticed, I've been very inspired to do different kinds if manicures lately, and I've thought that documenting them here would be fun for you as well. So those will keep on coming later on as well. But, if you're not into nail art, don't worry, the next two posts will be outfit ones! I'm so happy I've gotten more into the style side of this blog this year, I've missed it a lot but when my life was in a turning point a couple of years ago, I really didn't feel like outfit shoots other than taking a quick one for Instagram and it took a while to get back to being me. And currently, I feel more like me than in quite a while. Which is nice.

Anyway, that's something I might touch on in some later post, but now, let's get to the nails:

Since the whole Finland is all about politics today, I thought it would be nice to go and talk about something super light and fun. Like style. And share an outfit from Friday.

China Glaze The Arrangement Collection (Swatches, Nail Art and More)

Who else loves to surround themselves with spring colors this time of the year? I sure do. And that's why I treated myself to the China Glaze spring collection called The Arrangement. This post seems like it did forever to create with the photos and all, but I think now I have a very well-rounded post ready for you. So, without further ado, let's get into the collection!

Unicorn Nails

Happy Friday people, hope you've had a good week so far! Today has been quite a lot for me with a busy day at work and then with taking our little one to the vet for the first time. It did go nicely but I was very anxious because it was a new situation and those make me nervous every time. So I thought that in case you've had a nervous day as well, I'd post something cute and light-hearted to cheer us all up.

Jeffree Star Blue Blood Palette First Impression

Today I'm happy to share what might be the most exciting makeup release to me this spring. The Blue Blood Palette by Jeffree Star. Since the palette is only a week old, I can't give you a full review, but I can share what are my first thoughts and impressions about it.

So without further ado, let's get into it.

Green & Gold Nails

Since we just started another spring month, I feel it's more than appropriate to continue with spring color nails. So, I'm sharing a bright green design with you. I was so inspired by this green polish a while back and hed to do something fun with it. So I paired it with gold and did this.

Happy Saturday my lovelies! Today I'm sharing a post I've been excited to plan for you. This one is put together with a company I've worked before, and I will talk about them more at the end of the post, but if you're here just for the fashion part, it's going to be right here at the start.

So let's get into it.

Pink And Green Nails

Ready for another nail art design? I know I am. I've actually been surprisingly active on doing my nails lately, I have quite many designs shot for the blog and I'll be somewhat slowly rolling them here for you to see. Don't worry, I do have other content lined up as well in case you're not into the nails that much. I mentioned briefly in the previous one that I'll be sharing some home decor things on Instagram, and I will be sharing them here on the blog as well. Also, I have planned the next 1 Item, 5 Ways for you and I'll be shooting that in a week or so. Can you guess what item I'll be styling?

Anyway, I've blabbered enough now, let's get into the nail art:

Red Cherry Lashes Review

Today's post is something I'm very excited about, and it took longer than I thought to create but I believe is better to make it properly right away than have to maybe correct many things so that's why this is up a bit later than I originally planned. Hope you can appreciate that.

At the beginning of the month, I got contacted by False Lashes UK about possible cooperation. I'm a big fan of lashes, so I thought this would be a good fit for me. I don't do too many sponsored posts or collabs because most I get offered are either not a good fit for the blog/me or they're sounding unreasonable (looking at you, Chinese companies expecting things for 10$...). I know this is still a hobby for me and I do things when I just have a good while, but that's even more reason to be picky about the collabs I take. So even though I received the products here for free, the opinions are my own and unbiased, like if I had bought these with my own money.

But without further blabbering, let's get into the lash try-ons:

Hello my sweeties! The weekend and today flew by way too fast and I couldn't find the time to sit down and write anything for the blog. However, I am here today with a new post, and will be here tomorrow with another one. I'm having a couple of days off from work so I try to use the time well and get some blogging stuff done ahead so that I won't fall off the routine if things get busy soon as they tend to do in spring. But anyway, let's get into the nails!

1 Item, 5 Ways - Band Tee

Today, I have another lookbook for you. This time, centering around a classic rock item - a band tee. More specifically, I styled a merch tee from Alia Tempora, metal band from Czech Republic. Their singer Marketa is the ultimate unicorn princess and one of the ladies who inspired me to go colorful with my hair. We've also had some lovely conversations online and I'm patiently waiting for the day I can meet her! (The day is yet unknown but we'll surely meet someday!) If you're into melodic metal, check the band out on YouTube or Spotify, and if you feel like supporting them you can also find their merch here. And no, this isn't sponsored but rather me supporting a friend.

But now, let's get into the lookbook:

Night Sky Nails (Coewlesspolish Recreation)

Not too long ago, I spotted nails I really wanted to recreate on @coewlesspolish Instagram. Eva is absolutely one of my favorite nail instagrammers, and while most of her designs are too detailed for me to do or even try to do past of them on my mani, this one here looked like something I could do a simple little version of.

Spring 2019 Capsule Wardrobe

It's time to switch up my closet again. I would've done this earlier, but since even last week we've had a bit of snowstorm and -16-degree weather, I took my sweet time. These capsule wardrobe posts give me a great chance to think about my style and where I want to go with it, as well as if I have things in my closet I won't need anymore, and therefore can upcycle, recycle, give to friends or donate (and in rarer cases, sell). I like playing with my style a little and therefore will probably not have a very small closet in any time soon, but these do help me to see if there are seasonal clothes I won't really wear and therefore shouldn't invest in later on either. And hopefully, these will be an inspiration for you to think about your style and all that.

Thrifting the Trends - Colorful suits

Today it's time to continue the Thrifting the Trends series. If you're new here, this is the series where I take trends of this spring/summer predicted in the posts here and here and incorporating them into my style by thrifting, DIYing or using things I already have in my closet. The goal of this series is to show you don't always need to buy new things to be on trend and wear what's hot right now.

And, as I always say, it's better to think style over fashion. You can have an amazing style without following trends and fashion, but trends and fashion never promise to make you look stylish. That being said, I have fun emulating the trends into my looks although that's probably not what I will do too much unless rock chic and/or metal style comes in fashion.

Neon Floral Nails

Today, I'm happy to share another nail art design with you! I'm very eager to get into the more colorful designs as it gets towards the spring - although to be honest I think we all know I love wearing my colors on my nails and on my hair for any given time. I'm also very, very tempted to buy the China Glaze spring collection since they have so many beautiful colors in it. In case I do invest in it, expect a post with swatches as well as some designs featuring only them.

Copy That Look - Girly White Dress

After a relaxing weekend and a Sunday with me not using much Internet at all apart from streaming series from Netflix and videos from YouTube, it's time to get back into the blogging grind. After yesterday I feel so energetic and ready for the challenges of the week, and I did already tackle challenging things at work earlier today. Which feels so rewarding and I'd like to continue that feeling throughiut this week by completing things on my list both at home and at work. Don't know what it is about this week but I feel really good. Anyway, let's get into the post, shall we?

Key Lime Pie (Easy & Gluten-Free!)

Happy International Women's Day! Today is a good time to share this recipe in case you want to bake something for the occasion - or you know, just really want something sweet. This was surprisingly easy even though I was nervous about making the meringue. If you just focus on what the recipe says, you can do this too.

Tropical Leaf Nails

Since we're on the spring months already, it's only fitting I start posting spring nails as well. So today, we'll start off with these tropical nails I did a little while back. Also, as we speak, I have some nail supplies waiting for me in the post office and I will be picking those up tomorrow. That may make it into a little post or at least an Instagram story unboxing. But before that, let's get into these nails.

Thrifting The Trends - Lace

Hello March. The month I'm going to not be eating meat or chicken. I'm hoping that would give a boost towards my summer body, not necessarily by losing weight but certainly by making me feel lighter, even less bloated and all that jazz. More on that once we get more into this month, as currently it's only been two days.

Anyway, today's post is another installment to the Thrifting The Trends series. If you're new here, this is a series where I take trends and colors from a Vogue article here and Pantone color trend report here and create outfits based on them by thrifting, using my existing clothes and DIYing. The goal is to show that everyone can wear the trends in normal life, it just takes adjusting the things you see on the catwalks into your own wardrobe. And it is actually much easier than one would think.

I promise.

I Want To Be More Sustainable; Where To Start?

As I've seen many people making the New Year's resolution to be more sustainable one way or another - stopping buying fast fashion, going vegan, going cruelty-free etc., it came into my mind that possibly some of you are also considering doing that but maybe don't know where to start. That was the struggle for me as well, and maybe there are some days when it's that for me still, but after gathering at least a bit of knowledge about sustainability in everyday life, I wanted to share my tips on how to get started. I hope these are helpful to at least one person out there, because in that case the post has fulfilled its purpose.

Thrifting the Trends - Big Bows

Finally getting to post another piece to this series. It took a while, but let's get back to this. The title should tell you more than enough, but in case you haven't checked out the first post, here's a little explanation:

This series is called Thrifting The Trends, and in this one I will choose a theme seen on SS19 runways in each post, and will create a practical look for a small budget. Like in my other series, I will not buy brand new things, but rather thrift, shop my closet and DIY. Again the goal is to show that many of you probably have something in your closet already that you can wear to be trendy - if that's what you like. I'm not the one to go for trends that much, I rather just pick items I think suit my style without really caring if they're in trend or not. However, I guess many of you out there might want to try the new trends while maybe saving up and/or being somewhat sustainable, so I feel that series might benefit you.

The references for the colors and trends in this series are the Vogue article on SS19 trends (click!) and Pantone SS19 color trend report (click!). I went through those both and picked my favorite things from the Vogue piece to work into this series. (I did rule out the statement headpieces and wetsuit surfer style as I can't see myself wearing those in any occasion, other trends I'm at least considering or recreating!)

China Glaze Mini Haul

Who loves seeing nail polish haul for inspiration? Because I actually do. If you don't, I'm sorry, you can skip this one and come back once I'm talking about more interesting things. But I got these colors recently and am so hyped about them that I really want to share them with you.

Because you know, I am a nail polish addict.

DIY Bracelet Inspiration

In order to get back to my creative self and DIY roots, I actually went and ordered quite a bit of jewelry making supplies and even went to a bead shop (and dragged my boyfriend there too, haha), to get things for nice jewelry pieces. So maybe from now on, I can craft new jewelry pieces instead of buying them from places where the origins of the pieces might be questionable (a.k.a. sweatshops). Since the internet is full of amazing tutorials for everything imaginable, there's basically no reason to not try to make things myself.

1 Item, 5 Ways - Black Dress

Today, it's time for another part in the 1 Item, 5 Ways series. This time, I try to do something with a classic, a little black dress. I know there are a thousand and one styling guides for this, but I wanted to do my own take on it. So, without further ado, let's get into it.

I'm sticking to the color theme from the previous for today's one as well. I do realize these nails aren't anything mindblowing, but I liked them enough to want to share them with you. And I thought that makes a nice little Friday post.

Copy That Look - Simple Cardigan Outfit (Luanna Perez inspired)

Welcome to another part of Copy That Look. This is a series where I copy looks for less, which is not an original concept by any means, but the way I've visioned this is that I choose a look I like by a celebrity, influencer or basically anyone who has an inspiring style, and try to recreate the look by thrifting my own closet, DIYing, thrift shopping, borrowing or mixing the four. But buying anything new solely for this is not allowed. I want to keep this reasonably sustainable, and also I don't want to end up with items I don't use after the post. I will choose some of the looks myself, and some will be chosen by friends who are more or less metalheads as well, so that we will keep this rock chic and/or metal.

30-Day Declutter Challenge

Today's post will be very photo heavy and probably for acquired taste, but since I'm very proud of my decluttering, I thought I would share this. In case you're not about seeing all the things I gave away/recycled/so on, check back when I post the next article - it will most likely be about style instead of my "trash". But without further ado, let's get to the declutter post!

Valentine's Day Nail Inspiration x4

I know we're not in February yet, but I thought some of you out there would want a bit of inspiration for your nails as the Valentine's Day is coming up. After all, it's the perfect excuse to have cute, girly and possibly very pink nails. I came up with few designs I really liked, and they are all different in sense of techniques, difficulty and so on, so I'm hoping there's something for everyone.

DIY T-shirt Dress

A while back Amaranthe opened their Europe-wide merch store, and naturally I had to go and place an order. The thing was though, that the shirt I wanted only had men's XL sizes left then. But, as I have my crafting background, I figured I could buy the tee and just craft it into something that fits. And I feel it makes a cool little blog post as well.

And yes, I will have this intro for at least few first times I post to this series, so that the ones jumping on little later on can get the hang of this as well.

Organizing Our Walk-In Closet - Finally

Few days' break from blogging and outfit instagramming because I wasn't feeling like myself. I'm still a bit fluish, but getting better by the hour. Although, that's not the only thing going wrong this week, today my car wouldn't start because it's so cold and I think the battery doesn't love it's life. But hey, nowhere but up from here. Right?

Okay, that's how my week has started which feels, dare I say, messy. But at least our walk-in closet isn't that anymore! Which is what I quickly want to talk about today.

Thrifting The Trends - Beige

As promised, we're getting into the third style series now. In case someone is wondering why three running at the same time, the answer is to keep it interesting, but also because I will need to hunt for some of the items/DIY a little, and some of the looks I have in mind don't fit the current season, so this way I feel it's easier for me.

Welcome to the second of the new series on my blog, called Copy That Look. If you follow me on Instagram, you might know I got some Jeffree Star goodies from my boyfriend. I don't know how I deserved these after the Body Shop Calendar but apparently someone wants to absolutely spoil me. I will talk about them all in this post, but my main focus will be on the Alien Palette, since I'm sure that's what interests most of you the most.

1 Item, 5 Ways - High-Waist Jeans

This year, I'm going back to my blogging roots a bit, because what made me start blogging originally was wanting to share my outfits and some thoughts along them. And, one of the blogs I used to love a ton back in the day was J's Everyday Fashion.  She was one of the first ones I followed, and I feel like the collages she did with different looks with one item way back when were a thing that inspired me to start blogging as well. (Click here for an example!)

What I'm trying to accomplish with this series is mostly personal. I'm encouraging myself to play with my items more and show myself I actually need so much less than I still have. This series should spark my styling creativity, and inspire me to declutter the closet even more so that I wouldn't have too many doubles of things. For you, I hope this series tells that sometimes the place to shop is actually your own closet, and that even though media tells you that you need to buy the latest trends and all the new clothes to be happy and look good, that's really not the case.

DIY Print Hoodie + Other Little Projects

I will probably say this in few different posts at the beginning of this year, but don't mind me repeating myself… This year, I decided to take a step back and instead of maybe doing what's popular and all, I'm going somewhat back to the roots of this blog with my content. With the same time trying to keep the ideas fresh enough for it to not look like it was just dragged from 2012 or so. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I don't think that would be exciting for the most  people.

So, the roots. If you've ever wondered the long name of the blog and why I've been stuck with it instead of just having my name there or something cool and short, here's why. To me, Handmade Dreams of Mine is a bit layered thing. On one hand (pun totally intented) it means "life is what you make of it", and that the dreams you have are yours to realize, and no one else's. But on the other hand, if refers to my nature of loving to do things myself, whether it's painting, drawing, knitting, sewing, baking or whatever. And both sides are something I've let go too much in the past couple of years.

Meaning that this year, we're doing more DIYs and such, and also trying to make some dreams come true. But being realistic, let's start with the DIYs.

I wore these nails for New Year's, and were planning on sharing these on New Year's Eve, but after all ended up taking the days off and spending time with my boyfriend instead. Which was actually good for me and my mental energy. And since these aren't too themed, now is as good time as ever to share them.
